At least five people were killed and six others injured in separate traffic accidents across various provinces of Afghanistan on Friday, September 12.
According to Taliban officials, one of the incidents occurred around 1:30 p.m. when a passenger vehicle (Saracha) collided with a sewage tanker on the Mazar-e-Sharif–Kabul highway. The crash killed one person and injured four others.
In Samangan province, a separate crash occurred later that night, reportedly due to excessive speed causing the vehicle to veer off the road. Three people were killed and two others were injured in the incident.
Additionally, a spokesperson for the Taliban’s police command in Samangan confirmed that another vehicle swerved off the Samangan–Baghlan highway, killing the driver on impact.
Frequent road accidents in Afghanistan are attributed to driver negligence, unchecked issuance of driving licenses, lack of traffic regulation enforcement, damaged roads and highways, drug-impaired driving, and poor infrastructure planning.
As the country continues to struggle with failing infrastructure and limited oversight, traffic-related fatalities remain a serious concern across Afghanistan.
