Nada Mohammad Nadim, the Taliban’s Minister of Higher Education, has announced plans to recruit foreign professors to meet the academic needs of Afghanistan’s university system.

Speaking recently, Nadim claimed the initiative has the full backing of Taliban leader Hibatullah Akhundzada. “The leader has stated in every meeting and council,” he said, “that if we need foreign educators, we must bring them in under any circumstance.”

Nadim also emphasized the availability of master’s-level education in Afghan universities and urged local instructors with only bachelor’s degrees to pursue further studies. Those who already hold master’s degrees, he said, should enroll in doctoral programs.

The minister’s remarks come amid mounting criticism over the collapse of Afghanistan’s educational infrastructure and the Taliban’s sweeping restrictions on women and girls, who remain banned from higher education.
