The United States has reaffirmed its support for Pakistan in the fight against ISIS and other extremist groups, stating it stands “shoulder to shoulder” with its ally.

In a statement issued Thursday, September 4, the U.S. Embassy condemned the recent suicide bombing in Balochistan, which killed at least 15 people and injured 38. “The people of Pakistan deserve to live free from violence and fear,” the embassy said, expressing condolences to the families of the victims.

The bombing occurred on September 2 during a gathering organized by the Balochistan National Party. Senior party leaders, including its chairman Sardar Akhtar Mengal, were unharmed in the attack.

Local officials said the bomber detonated the explosive vest in a parking area as attendees were leaving the event. Remains of the assailant have been sent for forensic analysis.

Pakistan has long positioned itself as being on the frontline of fighting terrorism “originating from Afghanistan.” The United States has recently voiced its backing for Pakistan’s stance and security efforts.
