Hamdullah Fitrat, deputy spokesman for the Taliban, announced that the number of deaths from the earthquake in Kunar has risen to 1,475.

He said that 3,394 people have been injured and 6,782 houses destroyed in the disaster.

International organizations had earlier reported that some villages were completely wiped out.

Fitrat added that today, rescue teams were still working to pull people trapped under the rubble. According to him, these teams were also responsible for transporting the wounded, who were later airlifted to hospitals.

The deputy spokesman said that professional rescue teams sent by several countries are participating in the operations.

He noted that roads leading to the earthquake-hit areas have been reopened and that all Taliban institutions are working to assist victims alongside the local population.
