Authorities in Pakistan have issued new flood warnings for several districts in Sindh Province on Wednesday, August 20. The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) reported that at least 41 people have died in the past 24 hours due to rain-related incidents across the country.
According to officials, up to 100 millimeters of rain is expected in the next 24 hours in Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Mirpurkhas, and Sukkur.
Local authorities in the Buner district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province have reported that 290 people have died in recent days due to monsoon rains. Nearly 150 others remain missing, and rescue operations are still underway.
Survivors of the floods blame Pakistan’s federal government for failing to issue early warnings.
Since the start of the monsoon season on June 25, at least 746 people have been killed nationwide, officials say.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Asim Munir are scheduled to visit flood-hit areas in Swat Valley and Buner today.
