The Taliban’s Supreme Court announced that four individuals, including one woman, were publicly flogged in Kabul on charges of “theft and illicit relations.”
According to the court, three of the accused were each sentenced to three years in prison and 39 lashes, while the fourth received a one-year prison term along with 39 lashes. The verdicts, issued by the Kabul Primary Criminal Court and the Primary Court of Chahar Asyab district, were later upheld by the Taliban’s Supreme Court before being carried out.
The use of flogging by the Taliban has repeatedly drawn widespread international condemnation. Human rights organizations and the United Nations have described the punishment as “inhumane and degrading,” stressing that it violates international human rights standards.
