Politico has reported, citing U.S. sources, that former President Donald Trump is “displeased” with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over Israel’s recent airstrike on Doha, Qatar.
A source close to Trump told the magazine, “Every time there is some progress in the Gaza ceasefire talks, he [Netanyahu] seems to bomb something. That’s why the former president and his advisers are extremely frustrated with Netanyahu.”
According to Politico, Trump and his team fear the strike may have “irreparably disrupted” the ongoing ceasefire negotiations between Israel and Hamas, which have been facilitated in Qatar.
Reports indicate that the Israeli strike—targeting Hamas leaders in Qatar—was unsuccessful.
Two U.S. sources said the White House is now trying to calm Qatari officials, who described the attack as “brutal.”
Politico further reported that Qatar’s prime minister is expected to travel to New York this Friday for meetings with senior U.S. officials, including Trump, his vice president, and the U.S. secretary of state, where the strike and the future of Gaza ceasefire talks will be discussed.
Meanwhile, Marco Rubio, the Qatari foreign minister, is reportedly preparing for a visit to Israel. It remains unclear whether he will also travel to Qatar.
Washington had earlier claimed that Qatari officials were informed of the strike in advance—a claim Doha has denied.
Trump expressed his discontent on his Truth Social platform, saying he disapproved of the unilateral nature of Netanyahu’s decision to authorize the strike.
A senior adviser to Trump’s national security team described the public rebuke as “the most explicit and direct criticism of an Israeli leader by a Republican president in recent memory.”
Another source noted that during Trump’s recent Middle East tour, he deliberately chose not to visit Israel, and told leaders in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE that he was “tired of Netanyahu.”
