Pakistan has handed over 35 truckloads of relief supplies for victims of the recent earthquake in eastern Afghanistan to Taliban officials at the Torkham border crossing.
The trucks were dispatched on Wednesday (September 3) under the directive of Ali Amin Gandapur, Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
Gandapur had previously expressed readiness to support earthquake relief operations in Afghanistan. In a statement on Monday, he said coordination had been established with the Taliban and that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa stands with the people of Afghanistan.
He added that rescue teams, medical equipment, and humanitarian aid were fully prepared for deployment.
The earthquake has created an urgent need for humanitarian assistance, including shelter, food, and essential medical and hygiene supplies.
Because the quake struck at night, it caused a high number of casualties.
