The Israeli army killed at least eight people today, including four journalists, in an attack on Nasser Hospital in southern Gaza.

The Associated Press confirmed that one of the victims was a freelance journalist who had been contributing to the agency.

Maryam Dakka, 33, had worked as a freelancer with AP and other outlets since the start of the Israel-Hamas war. She had recently been reporting on doctors at Nasser Hospital struggling to save children who had no prior health issues but were wasting away from severe hunger.

Al Jazeera also confirmed that one of its journalists, Mohammad Salam, was among the dead.

Reuters reported that its photojournalist Hossam al-Masri was killed in the attack, while Hatem Khaled, another contributor, was injured.

The Israel-Hamas war has become one of the deadliest conflicts for journalists. According to the Committee to Protect Journalists, 192 reporters have been killed in Gaza during the 22-month war—compared to 18 journalists killed during the Russia-Ukraine war.
