Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Pakistani Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar arrived in Kabul on Wednesday, August 21, to participate in a trilateral meeting with the Taliban’s acting foreign minister.
According to a statement from the Taliban’s Foreign Ministry, the meeting will focus on political, economic, and regional cooperation among the three countries.
Zia Ahmad, deputy spokesperson for the Taliban’s Foreign Ministry, stated that Wang Yi is also scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with senior Taliban officials.
Following the Kabul visit, Wang Yi is expected to attend the sixth China–Pakistan Strategic Dialogue of Foreign Ministers in Islamabad on Thursday.
Previously, the foreign ministers of the Taliban, China, and Pakistan held an informal meeting in Beijing, after which the Taliban and Pakistan agreed to elevate the status of their diplomatic missions.
