U.S. President Donald Trump has claimed that a “major breakthrough on Russia” has been achieved, urging followers on Truth Social to “stay tuned.” In his post, Trump accused mainstream media of “brutally distorting the truth,” insisting that “there is nothing I can say or do that they will report honestly.”
He once again derided the war in Ukraine as “Biden’s stupid war,” adding that even if he hypothetically forced Russia to give up Moscow in negotiations, “the media and radical Democrats would still call it a mistake.” Trump complained that instead of reporting on the “six wars I stopped,” the press has launched a smear campaign against him.
The remarks come as the war in Ukraine grinds on and just a day before Trump is set to host Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and several European leaders at the White House. The meeting is expected to focus on possible avenues toward a negotiated settlement.
