The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) in Pakistan’s Sindh province has announced the arrest of two members of Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in Karachi.
According to a CTD spokesperson, the detainees, identified as Abdul Wakeel and Ajmal, are residents of Qila Abdullah district in Balochistan and had received military training in Afghanistan. The two are said to be close associates of a wanted militant named Sharifullah, who remains at large.
In recent weeks, Pakistani security officials have also reported the killing of three TTP members in Karachi’s Manghopir area. Among the dead was Zafran, believed to be the main planner behind the November 2024 attack on Chinese engineers in the city.
Pakistan has repeatedly claimed that Afghanistan serves as a “safe haven” for militant groups, alleging that many TTP operations are planned from across the border. The Taliban has denied these accusations, urging Islamabad not to shift the blame for its “internal problems” onto others.
Earlier, Pakistan reported killing 47 TTP fighters in Balochistan, at least some of whom had allegedly crossed over from Afghanistan. A number of Pakistani politicians continue to argue that the Taliban hold the key to ensuring security in Pakistan.
